An extraordinary wilderness experience in Baxter State Park awaits for Maine high school sophomores and juniors! The application for the 2025 Maine Youth Wilderness Leadership Program is now open; interested students can apply by going to friendsofbaxter.org/mywlp - the deadline to apply is Saturday, February 8th. The Maine Youth Wilderness Leadership Program cultivates and inspires the next generation of Maine's environmental leaders - Friends of Baxter State Park has offered this FREE program since 2009! The program provides the opportunity for students to develop leadership skills and experience Maine's wilderness through science, art, literature, storytelling, photography, history, and more! This year they are thrilled to offer TWO Baxter State Park wilderness trips with a total of 20 participants. Park excursions will take place on July 7th -15th, and then on August 8th-16th. Participants will be selected and placed in one or the other (not both) excursions with 10 participants in each trip. Highlights Include: Nine-day backpacking trip in Baxter State Park, experienced wilderness leaders from Chewonki, and hands-on learning with expert instructors. The application process is competitive; there is no cost to participate - AGAIN, the program is FREE! A letter of recommendation is required and may be submitted online at friendsofbaxter.org/mywlp Be sure to apply by the deadline of Saturday, February 8th!


The Association for Pre-College Program Directors is proud to present the Summer 2025 Pre-College Programs Virtual Fair, a virtual event that provides students and their families the opportunity to learn about academic summer programs at top US colleges and universities. The Worthington Scholarship application is open! The Worthington Scholarship Foundation has a goal to award over 1,000 scholarships this year; their only challenge is getting enough students who meet their criteria to apply! Applications are due by April 15th. To be eligible to apply for a Worthington scholarship, you must be a Maine resident and a graduating senior at one of their participating high schools (Gorham is one!) with plans to enroll full-time at one of their partner colleges or universities in the fall after your high school graduation.
