Portland Museum of Art announces that this year’s Homer High School Fellowship applications are now open! Each summer, we hire 8-10 high schoolers to work and learn at the PMA. Fellows get to see how museums work from the inside out, visit artist studios, create original artworks, and collaborate on a capstone project. This eight-week fellowship program during June-August is designed to foster creative thinking, community building, and use the PMA’s collection for inspiration and reflection. This job would be a great fit for students who enjoy making or learning about art and storytelling, those who seek to develop their leadership, interpersonal, critical thinking, and interpretation skills, and students interested in social studies, public humanities, or museum studies. Pay is $15 an hour, and workdays are tentatively scheduled for Tuesday-Thursday June 23rd-August 14th from 10 am-3 pm. We are currently accepting applications, and the deadline to apply is Monday, May 5th at 11:59 pm. The job is open to rising freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors. If you or your students have any questions about the job, please feel free to shoot me an email. I'd be happy to talk with you more about the opportunity.
