For any students who might be interested, Senator Collins is currently accepting applications for the coming summer’s Senate Page Program; this is an excellent opportunity for students to experience firsthand the legislative branch of our federal government! Pages will work until the Senate adjourns daily, so candidates need to be self-motivated with excellent academic records. The program requirements are as follows: Senate Pages must be sponsored by a Senator. With 30 pages per session, only the most senior members of the Senate can sponsor pages. Pages must be citizens of the United States or subject to agreements of the Department of State, and must have a social security number. Page eligibility is limited to juniors in high school who will be 16 or 17 years old on or before the date of appointment. Summer Page eligibility is limited to students who have completed their sophomore year and who will be 16 or 17 years old on or before the date of appointment. Pages must verify a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a home school transcript and a certification of immunization to qualify for attendance at the school. A general health assessment completed by a licensed physician is required, in addition to a certification of immunization. Pages must be covered by health insurance; if not covered, they will be required to enroll in the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program. There are two sessions: Session One: June 9th – June 27th Session Two: July 7th – August 1st Applications for both are due by April 1, 2025. Applications may be submitted using the link on Senator Collins website found at - https://www.collins.senate.gov/services/students Students may apply for future sessions that have not yet been announced. When applying for future sessions, students should note on their application which session they are applying for. Session dates are announced six to eight months in advance and will be posted as soon as they are available. For any juniors interested in a FREE summer engineering program, keep reading! The UMaine Chip Moody Consider Engineering Program is a challenging and rewarding four-day overnight summer program for high school juniors to get a taste of college life and what it takes to be an engineer! Be one of 108 students from Maine and around the U.S. invited to spend four days at the University of Maine participating in exciting engineering experiments, problem solving challenges, and great networking with faculty, practicing engineers and fellow campers—at no cost to you! This program is offered three times in July to groups of 36 students who have completed their junior year of study, excel in math and science, and demonstrate communication and leadership skills. This free-of-charge educational and inspiring program is competitive, with only half the applicants gaining admission. On campus food and lodging is provided. The Application Deadline for current high school juniors is April 15th. Hello everyone! Former GHS student, Jacob Tatom, owns a nonprofit called Streets Charity Basketball where they travel to different cities to raise money for local and national charities through a 3v3 style of play. The next tournament is going to be March 29th at The Point Community Center so if you would like to register a team, it is $150 per team, so go ahead and go to the website; streetscharitybasketball.com to register. Teams must be 16+ and the winning team will receive a cash prize as well as their share to charity. There will be free jerseys, food, prizes, all star contest and more! I only have room for two teams to join and the first team to register will receive a $50 gift card to Plato’s closet. Monday, March 17th through Friday, March 21st, the school counselors will be meeting with each student to begin the process of picking courses for next year. Please see the GHS website and app for more information.

Thanks to the work of the math department and leadership of Ms. Nelson, 18 students began training for the Junior Achievement Titan Challenge. This interactive program introduces high school students to various aspects of running a business. Students prepare to be the CEO of a cell phone company and make decisions that business executive space on a day-to-day basis. They learn about the impact of their decisions on finances, employees, consumers, and the community. As a culminating event, students will compete against schools across the state. Big thanks to our partners Junior Achievement of Maine and Mike Neff at RMD for making it a reality!

Tomorrow, during Advisory, we're holding an informational meeting about a paid summer opportunity to explore the trades and get connected to apprenticeships.
The program runs from 6/25-7/24 (with 7/3-7/4 off) and will include training in Osha 10, First Aid, and NCCER. Students will visit several worksites and network with employers. They're paid through Goodwill Solutions and receive free boots and a tool kit. All students who complete the program are guaranteed at least one interview for an apprenticeship. The deadline to apply is April 15th.
Any interested student is encouraged to join us in the auditorium tomorrow during advisory (12:30-12:45 pm). Advisors are welcome to bring their whole crew.

Early-Release Day Today - Wednesday, March 12th. Students dismissed at 11:00. The kitchen has breakfast available and will be serving pizza from 9:15-11:00 and will have bag lunches available at 11:00.

The Class of 2026 is putting on a semi-formal Spring Fling on March 28th from 7-9pm. The tickets will be sold from Friday the 21st to Thursday the 27th. Tickets will be sold at all lunches, but not the Friday of the dance. Tickets are $10 a person, and all outside guests will need a form from the office

Tomorrow, Wednesday, March 12th, is an early-release day. Students will be dismissed at 11:00. Please note: In addition to breakfast, the cafeteria will be serving pizza 9:15-11:00 and bag lunches tomorrow.
