Scholarship Opportunity: The Maine Legislative Memorial Scholarship Fund is now open! The Maine Legislature annually recognizes students currently pursuing or planning to pursue education at a two-or four-year degree-granting Maine college or technical school. High school, current college, and graduate students are all eligible to apply. One high school or college student from each county will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship to the Maine school of their choice. Summer Opportunity: FAME is pleased to announce that registration is now open for the 2025 edition of the Personal Finance Summer Institute. BUILD YOUR PERSONAL FINANCE SKILL$ with this FREE five-day intensive course presented by FAME and Waynflete School in Portland; the course will run from July 21-25. Topics will include budgeting, credit, taxes, saving, investing, education, economics, insurance, and more! Again, this is FREE for Maine high school students! For any students interested in learning more about Maine Maritime Academy, please join them for a “meet and greet” for Cumberland County area students on Wednesday, April 23rd from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Woodlands Country Club in Falmouth, Maine (39 Woods Road). This event is FREE and open to any/all interested students and their families who wish to learn about programs and career opportunities in the maritime industry and related fields. The GHS Student Council is hosting a Bingo Night this Friday April 4th at 6:00 PM in the cafeteria with pizza and prizes. This event is open to all Gorham families!

I have an update regarding the Skolfield Cornhole Tournament. While the organizers of this event will be donating proceeds to Gorham Project Graduation, the event is not directly affiliated with the Gorham School Department. As such, they will be making their own decision regarding whether the event is canceled due to weather. I would direct you to Skolfield Sports Performance for more information and updates regarding this event.

10 GHS students were selected to compete in the annual Gorham Woman's Club art competition. The artwork is on display at Baxter Library through mid-April. Claudette Wesse placed 1st, Elle Rector 2nd, Izzy Hamann 3rd & Emma Miramontes came in 4th. Those four will now compete at the District level on April 18.

Good morning, I am sorry to report that the ant problem in the GHS kitchen persists this morning. Fortunately, our kitchen staff had time yesterday to plan for this potentiality, so they are prepared with breakfast and lunch, which will include pizza, today. Breakfast and lunch will again be served in the hall outside the library. Lunches and study halls that are normally scheduled in the cafeteria will again be moved the back of MPAC. The pest control company was at GHS yesterday and will be back today. I am hopeful that this will all be resolved by next week. I appreciate our student and staff's flexibility, the problem-solving of our kitchen and maintenance staff, and our community support. Thank you! Brian Jandreau

For any students who are interested in a Pre-College Summer Program opportunity at UNE, Dr. Golshan Madraki, Professor and the Director of NextWave Pre-college Program at University of New England, would like to make interested students aware of this pre-college summer program for high school students (grades 10–12)—the NextWave Summer Program! The program will take place July 6–12, 2025 and will be led by three main faculty members along with a couple guess professors. Each year, they introduce an interdisciplinary new challenge/theme for students. This year’s theme is: "Designing a sustainable innovative Food Business for Maine’s Future" "In this year’s program, you’ll collaborate with a small team to design a sustainable and innovative food business that could thrive in Maine’s vibrant culinary landscape. Known for its fresh seafood, farm-to-table movement, and thriving food scene, Maine offers a unique setting to tackle one of humanity’s most pressing challenges—sustainable food practices." This is a new one-week-long summer program designed for high school students to explore, collaborate, and innovate while getting a taste of college life — right there on UNE’s coastal campus in southern Maine! Hello, I have an update regarding the situation in our kitchen. When we arrived this morning, we found ants in the kitchen area and did not feel that it was appropriate or safe to make food in our kitchen until the situation could be remedied and everything cleaned. We anticipate that this will be resolved by tomorrow morning, but we will certainly keep everyone informed. In the meantime, I have an update regarding breakfast. Thanks to our amazing friends at Mr. Bagel, we will have 100 breakfast sandwiches for students this morning as well as cereal, fruit, Nutrigrain bars, scones, and juice options. For lunch, we will have bag lunches, likely consisting of bagels and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, that are being made at the other schools. I truly appreciate our kitchen staff who notified me first thing that we wouldn't be able to make food for students and who have been scrambling to ensure we have other food options for students today. For students in grades 10-12 who have an interest in engineering, you are invited to spend part of your April break in faculty research labs at the College of Engineering at the University of Rhode Island; this is a unique experience designed for highly-motivated high school students interested in engineering! The dates for Break into Engineering at URI are April 16-18, 2025 and students must attend all three days. The time is from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. ET, daily. This opportunity is open to students in Grades 10-12. This is a FREE event and lunch will be provided. Interested students will need the endorsement of a parent/guardian and a recommendation letter from a math/science teacher. For any students and their families who are interested, NEACAC is hosting a College Fair on Thursday, May 22nd from 9:00 to 11:00 am at the Augusta Civic Center! NEACAC is pleased to announce that they have partnered with StriveScan to bring student barcode scanning technology to their College Fairs. StriveScan will enhance the experience for students and colleges by making information exchange more efficient and productive, while also providing valuable data to their organization and the fair organizers. Students can register for NEACAC fairs at www.StriveFair.com. Upon registration, StriveScan will send students a barcode via text message and email, which you can then show to college reps. Registering for a barcode provides students with more information on each institution and allows you to connect with schools even after the event. SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY: The Landry/French Construction scholarship is open to students entering or enrolled in a construction-related undergraduate program for the 2025/2026 school year. To be eligible, students must: • Be a Maine resident • Be enrolled in a construction-related undergraduate program (construction management, construction engineering technology, architecture, engineering, STEM, trades, etc.) • Be in good academic standing • Have a letter of recommendation from an Academic Professional (Academic Advisor, Professor, Teacher, etc. • Have a photocopy of your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) * Having a current academic transcript is preferred but not required. Tickets for the Spring Fling semiformal dance are on sale this week Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Please note that tickets are NOT on sale Friday or at the door. Students must purchase tickets during these three days in order to attend the dance.

Attention Seniors: The Portland Camera Club Latimer-Hutchinson Scholarship is an annual award of $1,500 to be used by the recipient for courses in still photography at an accredited post-secondary educational institution. Criteria: Graduating high school students, and home-schooled students age 17 or older may apply. Grant will be based on demonstrated and passionate dedication to photography. Requirements: Completed application (see "Application Process" below) Two letters of recommendation from people not related to applicant who can attest to the applicant's passion for photography. A personal statement from the applicant describing what photography means to them and how the scholarship will help foster personal growth and education in photography. Three photographic images made by the applicant which show the reviewers the quality of the applicant's work. Links to the applicant's social media postings or website of additional photographic images are encouraged but not required. Application Deadline: Completed applications must be received by no later than April 15th. Applicants are encouraged to review photography course offerings at an accredited post-secondary educational institution to determine what course(s) they would be interested in (i.e. - Maine Media Workshops and College and Maine College of Art and Design, SMCC).
