The UMaine Pulp & Paper Foundation Scholarship(s) are now available! The pulp and paper industry needs energetic, bright people to help solve challenging business and technical problems and to provide innovative ideas for future success. With the evolution of technology and the demand in eco-conscious products, processes and packaging, pulp and paper companies have a surplus of jobs and opportunities for technically trained engineers. The University of Maine Pulp and Paper Foundation provides full or partial tuition scholarships to aspiring chemical, civil, computer, electrical and mechanical engineering students at the University of Maine who are interested in pursuing careers in the booming paper industry; you could be one of them! 100% of Pulp and Paper Foundation Senior Scholarship recipients are either employed or attending graduate school (by choice). Scholarship recipients must achieve a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA and demonstrate a continued interest and commitment in pursuing a career in the pulp and paper industry by participating in: Chinn Management Seminars Student Organization membership Co-op job or internships after the sophomore year of study *Additional details are available when scholarship is awarded. The United States Senate Youth Program (USSYP) is the nation's premier high school public service, leadership, and scholarship program for qualified students interested in pursuing careers in government service - the 63rd annual USSYP Washington Weeks is being planned to take place in Washington, D.C. March 1 - 8, 2025. Any high school junior or senior who has not previously been a delegate to Washington Week or received a USSYP scholarship is eligible to apply provided that you are a U.S. Citizen or legal permanent resident in possession of your green card at the time of application, you were residing in the U.S. during the 2024 spring semester, and you are enrolled for the entire 2024/25 academic year, in an elected or appointed capacity in any one of the following student government, civic or educational organizations: student body president, vice president, secretary, or treasurer, class president, vice president, secretary, or treasurer, Student Council representative, a National Honor Society officer, or a student representative elected or appointed to a local district, regional or state-level civic, service and/or educational organization approved by the state selection administrator. The application should be filled out, printed, signed, and dated by the applicant, and mailed with attachments to the address provided: Dana E. Hall, Maine JCI Senate Scholarship Chair, 174 Bearce Road, Winthrop, ME 04364 Each year (April or May) the US JCI Senate Foundation awards $1,500 grants to high school seniors in the United States, who plan to continue their education at accredited post-secondary colleges, and universities. This year, the Foundation will be awarding grants nationally to fifty (50) high school students pursuing a college or university education. Maine High School seniors with a GPA of 3.75 and above are eligible to send a completed application form to the address listed. Applications must be postmarked no later than January 17, 2025. Curry College is excited to announce that their annual Comput/HER @ Curry College Conference is taking place again this fall on WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 16TH from 9:00am-2:30pm!
This one-day conference is designed to engage and inspire young women looking to pursue careers in data and computer sciences. High school sophomore, junior and senior women are welcome to attend.
There is no charge for participants and lunch is included! Comput/HER @ Curry College is an event for young women, and those who support them, to collaborate, learn about, and participate in computing, technology, and data science activities.
Participants will hear inspirational stories from successful women in the field, be mentored by female college students and recent graduates, and participate in collaborative, hands-on, skill-building activities in a welcoming and supportive environment.

The Elks National Foundation (ENF) has kicked off the 2025 scholarship year!
Details about the Most Valuable Student (MVS) Contest is below:
The 2025 Most Valuable Student application is now open and applications can be found online at enf.elks.org/MVS. The application deadline is November 12, 2024.
The Elks National Foundation (ENF) awards 500, four-year scholarships based on academics, leadership, and financial need. National awards range from $1,000 per year to $7,500 per year.
The national awards will be announced in April 2025. MVS scholarships are for students pursuing a four-year degree on a full-time basis (minimum of 12 semester hours), at a U.S. college or university next school year.
Some important applicant details include - current high school seniors (or equivalent) who are citizens of the United States are eligible to apply; applicants do not have to be related to a member of the Elks; male and female students compete separately.

Senators Susan Collins and Angus King and Representatives Chellie Pingree (1st District) and Jared Golden (2nd District) are hosting a Service Academy Night this Thursday, September 12th from 6-8 pm (doors open at 5:30 pm) at the Clarion Hotel in Portland, Maine.
This is a great opportunity for interested students and families to learn about the application and nomination process.
Representatives from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and the other federal service academies will be there to answer questions. Information on private military colleges, ROTC, National Guard Scholar programs, and Maine Maritime will also be available.

The Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange Program (CBYX) is currently accepting applications for the 2025-2026 academic year; this program is a fully-funded scholarship from the U.S. Department of State and German Bundestag for 210 American high school students to spend an academic year in Germany.

Are you interested in joining Interact Club?? The Interact Club at Gorham High School is a group dedicated to creating a positive impact on our community and the world. Members of the club will participate in hands-on service projects in Gorham and neighboring communities. The group works jointly with the Gorham-Westbrook Rotary Club on developing leadership skills. Joining Interact Club provides the opportunity to gain community service hours through a rewarding experience.
The club is open to all high school students, but 5 hours of service THROUGH our club are required throughout the school year.
The first meeting will be in Mrs. Smith's room (portable B1) on September 17th at 2:10. If you are interested in joining the club but cannot attend the meeting please email Mrs. Smith.
