Community Service Opportunity: For any students who are interested in earning community service hours, Friends of Presumpscot River is hosting The Presumpscot River Revival Race on Saturday October 18th at Dundee River Park. They are looking for 12 volunteers to help with parking, unloading and loading canoes off participant's cars, registering participants, and race timing. Volunteers can help starting at 7am-11am or 11am-3pm; volunteers will get a certificate to bring back to school in order to receive hours. Interested students are encouraged to email Stephanie Noyes at info@presumpscotriver.org

Scholarship Opportunity: The American Legion High School Oratorical Scholarship Program, "A Constitutional Speech Contest" is now available; the purpose of this scholarship program is to develop a deeper knowledge and appreciation of the Constitution of the United States among high school students. Other objectives include the development of leadership qualities, the ability to think and speak clearly and intelligently, and the preparation for acceptance of the duties and responsibilities, rights, and privileges of American citizenship. Scholarship awards are presented to the three finalists in the final round of the national contest as follows: 1st Place-$25,000; 2nd Place-$22,500; 3rd Place-$20,000. Each department (state) winner who is certified and participates in the first round of the national contest will receive a $2,000 scholarship. The High School Oratorical Scholarship Application MUST be received by your local American Legion Post by December 6th, 2025. More information and the scholarship application are available in the GHS Guidance Office.

Wednesday, Oct. 15: Jersey Day 🏈 (Team apparel and sportswear)
Thursday, Oct. 16: USA Day 🇺🇸 (Wear your red, white, and blue!)

Scholarship Opportunity: The Clyde Russell Scholarship Fund offers financial awards to Maine graduating high school seniors to attend a 4-year college or a Maine Community College. This scholarship was created by the Maine Education Association through a trust established by the late Audrey Lewis, who served as President in 1958. The Fund was named after Clyde Russell who served as Executive Director from 1945 to 1966. Awards for high school seniors who will attend a four-year college will not exceed $10,000 and awards for seniors who will attend a Maine Community College will not exceed $2,000. The award will be to cover tuition, room, board, books and fees. Awards are paid directly to the winner, half upon receipt of each semester grades. In granting the awards, the Trustees will consider personal traits and qualities, extracurricular activities, community activities, academic ability, motivation, and personal goals and objectives. Application forms must be obtained by going to their website at clyderussellscholarshipfund.org Applications may be downloaded between October 1st and January 31st. Deadlines for applications will be February 1st of any given year. Late applications cannot be considered. Scholarship Opportunity: Each year around the April or May time frame, the US JCI Senate Foundation awards $1,000 grants to high school seniors in the United States, who plan to continue their education at accredited vocational or industrial schools within the United States. This year, the Foundation will be awarding grants nationally to ten (10) high school students pursuing a vocational or trade education. Maine High School seniors with a GPA of 3.25 and above are eligible to send a completed application form to: Dana Hall, Maine JCI Senate Scholarship Chair, 174 Bearce Road, Winthrop, ME. 04364. Applications must be postmarked no later than January 12, 2026. The Maine JCI Senate will select one candidate for the next level of judging by the US JCI Senate Foundation Scholarship Committee. The Maine JCI Senate will award a scholarship of $500 to the Maine finalist. If you have further questions, you may contact Dana Hall, Chairman, at dcdhalls@roadrunner.com The US JCI Senate Foundation Scholarship for high school seniors in the United States who plan to continue their education at accredited post-secondary colleges, universities is also available. The applications are very similar with the main differences being the first page of the applications and the different GPA thresholds. A reminder to all students who were selected for the Construction Trades field experience next Thursday. Permission slips are due tomorrow, Friday, by 2:00. There is a waiting list, so any students who have not turned in permission slips will be removed and replaced. Please check email over the next few days to confirm where we will meet to board the bus on Thursday. Remember, we are leaving EARLY!
