The GHS Weekly – Student & Family Edition

Week of May 10, 2026 • Principal: Brian Jandreau

Important Campus Traffic and Parking Notice

Please be advised that the Morrill Ave parking lot and student drop-off area will be temporarily closed beginning Wednesday, May 20th at 12:00 PM through the end of the school day on Friday, May 22nd.

This closure is required to accommodate necessary paving work for the Gorham High School expansion project. During this time, all students, families, and visitors must utilize alternate parking and drop-off locations around campus. Please anticipate traffic delays and allow for extra travel time during morning arrival and afternoon dismissal. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we continue to improve our school facilities.

Upcoming Early Release and Safety Drill

Wednesday, May 20th is a scheduled Early Release Day for students.

  • Dismissal Time: Students will be dismissed at 11:00 AM. A boxed lunch option will be available for students prior to dismissal.

  • Staff Safety Drill: Following student dismissal, GHS staff will participate in a full-scale emergency evacuation and reunification drill at the USM Field House. This exercise is part of our ongoing commitment to school safety and crisis preparedness.

  • Student Volunteers: A group of student volunteers have graciously stepped up to assist us with this drill. These students will remain on campus after the 11:00 AM dismissal for lunch, and then join staff on the buses to act out student roles during our evacuation and reunification practice at the USM Field House. All participating student volunteers will return to GHS by 2:30 PM (with busing home provided as needed) and will earn community service hours for their valuable support.

Students who are interested should email Principal Jandreau at Brian Jandreau

Senior Experience Internships Begin

Our seniors officially begin their Senior Experience Internships this week, running from May 18th through May 28th. This program provides our seniors with invaluable real-world insights and professional exploration as they prepare for graduation. We wish them all the best as they begin their placements.

Student Dismissal Reminders

To ensure accurate attendance and student safety, please remind your students that they are not permitted to leave campus during the school day without following official procedures. All student early dismissals must be processed through the main office by a parent or guardian.

Looking Ahead: Technology and Device Updates for Next Year

As we plan for the upcoming school year, Gorham High School is committed to creating a highly focused, secure, and distraction-free learning environment. To support this goal, our campus guest Wi-Fi network will be turned off during the instructional day next year (active only after 2:15 PM and on weekends). This means that all students will be required to use their school-issued iPads for daily schoolwork, as personal laptops, phones, or non-standard electronics will not have network access during school hours. One significant benefit is that teachers will be able to focus instruction using the robust apps available for ipad.

Additionally, our faculty is currently discussing how best to adopt the new state-level mandates for student personal electronic devices. We have already decided that it is imperative that staff model "off and away" behaviors themselves, ensuring that personal devices remain put away during instructional blocks and preparation times. We appreciate your partnership as we refine our campus habits to best support student focus and success.
