Key Responsibilities
Curriculum & Instruction:
Design and implement high-quality, engaging science instruction that aligns with state and national standards.
Develop lesson plans that accommodate a range of student abilities and encourage personal growth and scientific literacy.
Possess the vision to adapt and scaffold curriculum to ensure all students have equitable access to rigorous high school science programming.
Deliver differentiated instruction using research-based strategies in a culturally responsive classroom environment.
Assessment & Support:
Evaluate student progress using clear, consistent assessment methods and provide meaningful feedback to support academic goals.
Monitor student growth regularly to determine mastery of standards and provide additional support or enrichment as needed.
Maintain accurate records of student achievement and communicate progress effectively to families and administration.
Collaboration & Community:
Collaborate with department colleagues to integrate scientific initiatives and cross-curricular opportunities school-wide.
Engage with parents, administrators, and community partners to promote the importance of science education and student well-being.
Contribute to a safe, inclusive, and empowered learning environment where students feel seen and supported.
Qualifications
Education & Certification:
Bachelor’s degree in a Science-related field (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, etc.); Master’s degree preferred.
Valid Maine State Certification for teaching high school science; certification in Life and Physical Science preferred.
Experience & Skills:
Previous teaching experience at the high school level is preferred.
Deep understanding of scientific inquiry-based pedagogy and classroom management.
Strong collaborative skills for working within a multi-disciplinary department.
Patience, empathy, and a commitment to educational equity.
