History Day Regional Finalists
On Saturday, March 8, two GHS students participated in the National History Day in Maine Southern Regional Contest at the University of Southern Maine in Portland. Both students were selected as finalists in their categories: Elsie Moreno for her website entitled The Chernobyl Disaster: A Product of Soviet Complacency in the Senior Individual Website category, and Lucas Lane for his paper entitled “Amendments in Vain: How the U.S. Federal Government Granted African Americans Rights and Failed to Protect Them” in the Senior Paper category. Both students also received superlative awards: Elsie received the “Most Enthusiastic Interview” award and Lucas received the “Most Dramatic Project Title” award. Elsie and Lucas will be advancing to the state contest, which will be held on May 3 at the University of Maine.
